How to Create a Hole For Window in Autocad 2006

To create a window in Autocad 2006, you have to make a hole on the wall first. This is how you do it :
  • Make a rectangle as a window frame. The dimension is, example 80 cm x 130 cm. Draw it where you want to put the window. Like the pic below :
  • Now you have to move the rectangle upwards. Pay attention to UCS direction. Make sure the Z axis is backwards like the pic below :
  • Now CLICK on the MOVE icon on MODIFY toolbar or type m on command line box. SELECT OBJECT, ENTER, SELECT BASE POINT and move the object upwards. When you hold your mouse to move the object, insert the value of height that you want from bottom of the floor, example 70 cm. See the pic below :
  • You have to make a solid to make a hole on the wall. Click on the EXTRUDE icon on SOLID toolbar, CLICK on the reactangel object and insert the value of the thickness of the wall, example 15 cm. See the pic below :
  • Now to make a hole CLICK SUBTRACT icon on SOLID EDITING toolbar. When the command box ask you select solids & regions to substract from, CLICK the wall. and next command line will ask you select solids & regions to substract, CLICK the window frame object. And tadaaaa you got a hole on your wall. See the pic below :
  • Change your shaded to GOURAUD SHADED to see the result clearer. Like the pic below :
