Weird City Names in Germany
Germany has a string of cities that take one through the entire digestive tract: Essen (eat), Darmstadt (intestine city), and Pforzheim (which is close enough to the German word for “fart” to make it a punch line). But are you familiar with the weirdest town names in Germany and Europe?
Imagine you are an exchange student in Germany. You’ve just arrived at your host family’s place just north of Frankfurt and you write home to your friends to tell them where you live. Which of the following could be a possibility?
* Sinn - It’s a small town in Hesse — and yes, it has a church.
* Wank - Luckily, it’s a small place in Bavaria so there aren’t many Wankers.
* Kissing - In Germany it’s okay. If it were in Austrailia, there would be “kissing down under.”
* Petting - Odd
* Mailing - More odd.
* Attaching - Qwerky
* Carsick - It’s a suburb of Sheffield, England. Wonder if you have to take a windy road to get there?
In case you thought it was only Germany with goofy names, guess again. Bitsch, Switzerland; Hole, Norway; and Ass, Ukraine are equally cruel to their residents.
